Celebrities Who Have Been Banned From Talk Shows

Late Show with David LettermanCertain celebrities have been banned from talk shows – whether it has been a personal or professional conflict, find out the big names banned from the big shows below.

Kathy Griffin – Kathy Griffin’s shocking brand of humor has gotten her banned from several shows. Among her banning accolades are The View, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and The Late Show With David Letterman. Among her offenses are the profuse use of obscenity, sex jokes involving Howard Stern and Barbara Walters, and a striptease performed on-air for David Letterman.

Adrien Brody – Adrien Brody hosted “Saturday Night Live” back in 2003 and delivered a performance that the show’s producer Lorne Michaels found highly offensive (which is surprising, considering it’s “Saturday Night Live”). The actor did not stick to the show’s script, his first major strike that night. Then, when introducing the musical performer Sean Paul, Brody came on stage in dreadlocks and a horrific Jamaican accent. Though the crowd laughed, Brody was banned from the show permanently.

Gary Busey – Notoriously unhinged actor “Scary” Gary Busey was banned from The Howard Stern show in 2001 after he randomly picked up sidekick Robin Quiver in a bear hug and wrestled Stern to the ground. In 2003, Busey would blame the incident on his split personality disorder, saying it occurred because of one of the thirteen personalities residing within him. Busey reported the one that came out on that day was “Pesky, The Excitable Boy.” This is just one reason why he garners nicknames like “Scary Gary.”

Bobcat Goldthwaight – Back during his shock comedy days, stand up comedian Bobcat Goldthwait set fire to a couch on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show set. The comedian was fined $2,700, had to pay $700 for the chair, and was forced to record a fire safety PSA. Oh, and he got banned from the show’s guest list permanently.

Kelsey Grammar – Frasier star Kelsey Grammer was banned from the now defunct CNN Piers Morgan Live, after he walked off the set when the show ran a picture of his ex-wife against his wishes before an interview. In a later interview with TMZ, the actor called the banning “inconsequential.”

Hugh Grant – Jon Stewart announced he had banned Hugh Grant from appearing on The Daily Show. The decision came on the basis of a particularly unpleasant visit Grant made to program in 2009 while promoting Did You Hear About The Morgans? Stewart described his visit by saying “He’s giving everyone s— the whole time, and he’s a big pain in the A$$.” To smooth things over, Grant would take to Twitter to fess up to his unpleasantness, stating “Turns out my inner crab got the better of me with TV producer in ’09. Unforgivable. J[on] Stewart [was]correct to give me kicking.”

The Kardashians – Anderson Cooper announced his wish to ban any and all Kardashians from his day time talk show Anderson. Ironically, this announcement happened shortly after Khloe professed her love for the host via Twitter.

Jay Leno – n a 2010 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Conan O’Brien revealed that, in the wake of losing his Tonight Show spot, rival Jay Leno would never be invited onto his show. “No” O’Brien said firmly in the interview. “There are certain things I will not do, regardless of the price.”

Madonna – When Madonna joined Twitter, Piers Morgan decided it was the choice opportunity to sink his claws into the singer. Morgan tweeted at Madonna “Welcome to Twitter. You’re still banned from my show. Love Piers X.” Morgan has a longstanding feud with the singer and has described her as “an irritant in my life for 20 years.”

Howie Mandel – Piers Morgan also banned fellow America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel from his show. Apparently Morgan did not appreciate Mandel’s unique brand of humor, dubbing it “too irritating.”

Heather Mills – Piers also put a “lifetime ban” on the woman he introduced to former Beatles member Paul McCartney, banning the former model – allegedly to make up for his ill-fated matchmaking. He said he introduced them at the 1999 Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards and when the singer asked him about her, he replied, “I think you’d get on brilliantly; she’s a vegetarian, she’s very attractive, intelligent.” Next thing you know, he says, “Paul asks her out on a date, they get engaged, they get married, it’s all very happy and hunky-dory – and then she takes him to the cleaners.” It was then he says he realized he’d pushed one of the “world’s great gold diggers” in the direction of one of his heroes.

Howard Stern – Howard Stern has had a longstanding feud with Jay Leno that has supposedly rendered him persona non grata on The Tonight Show. The shock jock has accused Leno of lying about taking pay cuts, stealing segments from The Howard Stern Show, and has complained about NBC threatening Stern’s spot on America’s Got Talent due to this criticism.

Vince Vaughn – Upon the release of the Vince Vaughn vehicle The Dilemma, Ellen DeGeneres banned the actor from promoting the film on her show. The host cites a particularly homophobic scene in the film as the reason. Even without Ellen’s reaction, the film tanked and Vaughn made up with the host. He has appeared on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show numerous times since.
