Ten Celebrates 50 Years – What Show is Number 1?

Con The FruitererCelebrating 50 years of television tonight, with flashbacks from Number 96 to when they were the network who broke 9/11 with Sandra Sully, Ten did themselves proud with a great show that evoked emotions, passions and memories from years ago to present.

It was amazing to see how many people started at Ten too – from Eddie McGuire, Kylie, Russell Crowe, Larry Emdur, Mel Gibson and Asher Keddie (on Young Talent Time). It was fantastic to watch a flashback of Australian and world history through a TV Network.

Channel Ten counted down their top 10 shows as voted by viewers on tenplay. Here is the list:

10 – YOUNG TALENT TIME
The original series ran from 1971 until 1988 and was hosted by Johnny Young and must see! The “Young Talent Team” performed popular classic songs along with the top hit songs of the day and it launched the career of Dannii Minogue, way before Kylie waas famous.

9 – PRISONER
set in the Wentworth Detention Centre, a fictional women’s prison, we saw the likes of “Vinegar Tits” and “The Freak” change the way Australians had seen women behave on the small screen

8 – THE PROJECT
The weeknight show that does news differently – it wasn’t expected to last but it’s still around and still rating. It’s the only Aussie TV show that get’s the BIG stars on primetime. Check out http://youtu.be/7v0_pBwcd_w and http://youtu.be/e3broOBpKIs

7 – THE COMEDY COMPANY
Con the Fruiter, Kylie Mole and Uncle Arthur saw mum’s and dad’s join the kids for Sunday nighht viewing – it was the first show to ever beat 60 Minutes, creating Aussie ratings history.

6 – TALKIN” ABOUT YOUR GENERATION
Hosted by Shaun Micallef, it showed the generation gap between the baby boomers and Gen X and Gen Y and saw it launch Josh Thomas’s career.

5 – THANKGOD YOU’RE HERE
With some of Australia’s best comedians, this improv show somehow touched the heart of many Aussies.

4 – MASTERCHEF
Thought this would be higher. It has Julie Goodwin now an Aussie star as are Andrew Prior and his successful food tours in Melbourne, Poh Ling Yeow, Marion Grasby, Justine Schofield, Hayden Quinn and Alice Zaslavsky.

3 – NEIGHBOURS
Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce and the singing budgie all started here. Bouncer and Mrs Mangle remain my favourites.

2 – ROVE LIVE
Compulsive TV watching – it brought late night TV talk shows back to Australia. GOD I miss Rove and his Kevin Rudd laugh. Where is he, what the? Say hi to your mum for me!

1 – OFFSPRING
Number one spot goes to the show that alot of generes love, even though it is rumoured to end this season (more to come). Nina just seems to capture people’s hearts.
