American Idol’s, Michael Johns Dead at 35

johnsMichael Johns, a finalist on American Idol season seven, has died from an apparent blood clot in his ankle, yet that is still to be confirmed. Johns who was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1978, competed on the music show in 2008 and is the first American Idol finalist to have passed away.

When Johns was cut from the competition in eighth place, it was a shock, and his elimination was often cited by the show’s producers as a reason to instate the “Judges’ Save” just one season later.

Fellow American Idol contestant Melinda Doolittle paid tribute to Michael, posting on Instagram: ‘I can’t express how sad I am right now. Michael Johns, rest in sweet peace, my friend. You will be greatly missed.’

Real Housewife Yolanda Foster – whose husband David Foster is a music producer – also took to Twitter to say: ‘R.I.P our beautiful friend @michael_johns You will live in our hearts forever @AmericanIdol’

David Cook, American Idol season seven winner – “Mike was one of the first people I bonded with when I got to Hollywood week, and I can honestly say that the depth and pressure associated with the first few weeks of the Idol experience would’ve eaten me alive, had it not been for Mike. He had a way of making this gigantic, life-altering event seem small and manageable. To say I’m shocked and saddened is a gross understatement. I’m completely gutted for his family, including his wife, Stacey.  I hope they can find at least some small amount of solace in the fact that he made mine and many others’ lives so much better by having known him.”
