“Neighbours” To Be Broadcast in the USA

paulaAustralia’s longest-running drama Neighbours will make its U.S. debut July 14 on Hulu and Hulu Plus, the TV-network-backed streaming service announced today.

New episodes will debut daily, Monday through Friday, airing four weeks after the Australian broadcast. The U.S. premiere week will include a guest appearance by actress and singer Paula Abdul.

Australia’s longest-running drama Neighbours will make its U.S. debut July 14 on Hulu and Hulu Plus. Hulu is a free subscription service supported by advertising which is available only in the US.

New episodes will debut daily, Monday through Friday, airing four weeks after the Australian broadcast. The U.S. premiere week will include a guest appearance by actress and singer Paula Abdul. In the Friday, July 18th episode, Abdul visits Ramsay Street to drop in on Doctor Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher), who admits to a crush on the former American Idol judge – much to the surprise of his wife, Susan (Jackie Woodburne).

According to Hulu, the initial episodes launching on the service mark the beginning of several new story arcs, to introduce American audiences to the life on Ramsay Street in the fictional Australian suburb of Erinsborough.

Neighbours was first broadcast in Australia in 1985 and has since had over 6,900 episodes produced. The series is produced by FremantleMedia Australia and distributed globally by FremantleMedia International.
